To not confuse this cemetery with another similar one in the immediate neighborhood [Horney], let it be known that SHIELDS lies south of the inlet of a small artificial lake called “The Pool or Big Pond”, which forms an important part of the conservation clubs tract [38.61]acres.

Joshua Shields was born in Knox Co.,
TN, where he married
that famous Indiana Pioneer public servant [John Tipton’s]
sister Rhoda Tipton
who also was born in TN. It was this Mrs. Rhoda Tipton Shields who
personally
selected this beautiful spot north of
Note: there is some discrepancy in at least one of the dates.
Historian Dr. J.Z. Powell, who was reared in a nearby township & who visited this cemetery in 1906/07 says “George Smith, a soldier was buried in this cemetery.
