VOORHIS-GRIMES FARMS
Pioneer Family
Burial Ground
[Abandoned
& Evacuated]
This
Pioneer Family cemetery was situated near the center of Section 22, T.27N.
R.3E., MIAMI Township, CASS County, INDIANA & about 1/2 mile W. of the
Miami-Cass county-line & 1/2 mile N.E. of the N.E. corner of the town of NEW
WAVERLY.
A few
other families were also probably buried here prior to, during & after the
Civil War but it was abandoned & evacuated in order to construct a road
through this region. The old slabs & other stones being moved in about 1877
to the much larger New
Waverly, I.O.O.F. cemetery that is only one mile west of this cemetery. The
road which passes by New Waverly Odd-fellows cemetery now runs East through the
center of Section 22 & is said to pass directly over this former
Voorhis-Grimes burial ground.
