DEATH CLAIMS POPULAR WOMAN OF DEER CREEK
Mrs. Claude Zehring of Near Bennetts Dies in Hospital.

Mrs. Claude Zehring's death is reported with profound regret by the Peru Republican as she was a very capable and alert correspondent for this paper, since the passing of Mrs. Thos. McConnell whose place she took in contributing weekly news-letters to this paper.

Mrs. Zehring passed away while a patient of the Good Samaritan hospital at Kokomo, last Thursday April 12. She had been taken to that institution for treatment.

Beatrice O. Zehring, the daughter of Martha Ellen and William S. Fickle was born June 29, 1895 on the family farm west of Galveston, where she lived until her marriage. Her untimely death occurred April 12, 1934 at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Kokomo at the age of 38 years, 9 months and 13 days.

She was the youngest of eight children, and leaves three brothers and three sisters of them. They are Omar Fickle, Harry Fickle, Joseph Fickle, Mae Barron, Bessie Crites and Frances Finney.

She attended the public school of Galveston and was graduated with the class of 1913. She then attended Ball Teachers' College, Muncie, after which she became a teacher in the Jackson Township school in 1917 and 1918.

On December 25, 1917 she was united in marriage to Claude M. Zehring to which union were born four sons, who survive, Bob Joe, John A., Wayne S., and Claude M. Junior.

As a young girl she joined the United Brethren church at Galveston. After her marriage and subsequent removal to the Bennetts community, she moved her membership to the Bennetts Methodist church in which she was an active worker until her death.

Beatrice Zehring was actively interested in all that was good in the community. Her work in the Ladies Aid, in the Sunday school, in the Parent Teachers work, in the Farm Burea, and in music because she was a pianist demonstrated her busy life. Yet she never neglected her family, which always stood first in her thoughts. She was optomistic and energetic.

It is such a person as this that is most missed in her family, community and church. Her life spoke for itself; what we say changes it none.

We so wanted to keep her,
But God from above Wanted to place her,
In the garden of love,
And since she has gone To that home bright and fair,
We know she will be waiting To welcome us there.

The funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon by Rev. Rees in the church at Bennetts Switch.

Mr. Dorey Maple sang three numbers and Mrs. Elsie Shirley was at the piano.

The pall bearers were: Milton Green, Cletes Barron, Joseph Zehring, Alfred Zehring, Franklin Zehring and Forest Zehring. The flower bearers were: Miss Helen McConnell, Mrs. Dewart Cory, Mrs. George Brown, Miss Thelma Zehring, Miss Miriam Zehring, Mrs. Virgil Scott, Miss Mabel Beets, Miss Juanita Beets, Miss Louise McConnell, Miss Theodora McConnell, Miss Juanita Myers and Mrs. Robert Hawkins.
