JUL 1892 LOGANSPORT DAILY REPORTER
DEATH COMES
FIREMAN FENDLING EXPIRED AT 930 LAST NIGHT
With
every chance decidedly against him Fireman Otto Fendlings remarkable
constitution and determination baffled death for almost two days, but
at 940
last night the unequal struggle ended and the horrible accident of
Tuesday
night claimed its victim. When
his
mangled body was first picked up at Aylesworth, it was thought that
life was
even then extinct. Afterward
upon his
arrival at this city, it was the opinion of so many that he was dead
that an
undertaker was summoned. Since
then it
has been rumored so frequently that he was dead that the true report
required confirmation
before it could be believed. Taking
into
consideration the nature and extent of his injuries his vitality is
remarkable. Only
once or twice however since the accident
did he recover consciousness and then but long enough to take a
farewell look at
his family. All day
yesterday he lay quiet
and unconscious and breathed his last apparently without pain. Deceased was 32 years old
and leaves a young wife
and one small child bereaved by this sad misfortune.
He had but recently built a pretty little cottage
at the corner of Usher and Twenty First Streets.
He was an esteemed member of St. Josephs
Benevolent Society and of the Order Of Railroad Fireman, under those
auspices the
funeral services will be conducted.
He was
also a member of the Pennsylvania Relief Association Second Class, and
his widow
will draw $500 benefits from that fund.
The funeral will be held Monday at 9 am from St
Joseph Church . The
St. Joseph Society and B Of Lf Order will
meet at 7 am and march to the family residence.
