Ethmer Skelton, Conductor

Ethmer Skelton, Conductor
Ethmer “E.O.” Skelton, taken circa 1955.

Ethmer worked for the Pennsylvania railroad for 35 years, retiring in 1957.  He spent the last 9 years of his career as a passenger conductor, running primarily between Logansport and Chicago.  His last trip was Wednesday, July 31, 1957 when he left Logan on train #84 at 6:00pm and returned at 1:35 am on August 1.  By this time there were very few passenger trains in Logansport.

He also ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 1956 against political powerhouse Charles Hallack, losing badly in the primary.
