Roy Frank ALLISON Rank: Sergeant
Son of Frank L. and Cora Winkler Allison; born November 23, 1899, Ogden, Henry County, Ind. Moved to Kokomo, Ind., in 1904. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army December 11, 1915, and was sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo. Assigned to Company K, 34th Infantry. Served on the Mexican Border in 1916. Went overseas in August, 1918, and was killed in action October 22, 1918. Survived by widow, Alberta Anderberg Allison.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. William Blansett; born in 1894 (exact date not known), Jasper, Tenn. Employed in Kokomo, Ind. at time of enlistment in U.S. Regular Army, early in the year, 1917. Sent to Ft. Thomas, Ky.; assigned to aviation branch of service, and sent to Kelly Field, Tex. Transferred to Wilbur Wright Field, Ohio. Later took a special course in gunnery. Died of influenza October 6, 1918, Dayton, Ohio. Buried in Jasper, Tenn.

Son of Albert F. and Mary A. Bohn; born January 23, 1893, Miami County, Ind. Living in Kokomo, Ind. at time he was called into service, September 4, 1918. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 15th Company, 4th Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Died of pneumonia October 11, 1918, Base Hospital, Camp Taylor, Ky. Buried in Rankin Cemetery, Bunker Hill, Ind. Survived by widow, Pearl Bohn.


Henry P. BOLES Rank: Private
Son of John A. and Susie Boles; born December 21, 1876, West Lima, Wis. When quite young moved with parents to Kokomo, Ind. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army September 13, 1899, and served several years. Re-enlisted January 22, 1914, Jefferson Barracks, Mo.; assigned to Company D, 1st Infantry; later transferred to Supply Company, 1st Field Artillery. Died of pneumonia March 6, 1918, Ft. Sill, Okla. Buried in Kokomo, Ind.


Houck BORUFF Rank: Private
Son of Henry and Emma Boruff; born February, 1887 (day of month not given) Union County, Tenn. Employed as a machinist in Kokomo, Ind., where he entered service October 10, 1917. Sent to Ft. Thomas, Ky.; assigned to School for Cooks and Bakers, and was sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; where he died of pneumonia, February 28, 1918. Buried at Maynardville, Tenn.

Entered service March 29, 1918, Marion, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; then to Camp McClellan, Ala. Assigned to Company C, 115th Infantry. Overseas in June, 1918. Died July 31, 1918, from accidental causes, Soppelbas, Alsace, France. Survived by widow, Edith Brobst, Toledo, Ohio.

Sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Ill.; assigned to duty on the Michigan. Made three trips overseas. Died of pneumonia March 11, 1918, Philadelphia, Pa. Buried in White Post Cemetery, Medaryville, Pulaski County, Ind. The American Legion Post, Medaryville, Ind., named in his honor.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. John Cassady; born July 31, 1895, Logansport, Ind. Living in Kokomo, Ind., when he enlisted in U. S. Regular Army July 3, 1916. Sent to Columbus Barracks, Ohio; assigned to Company H, 23rd Infantry. Served on the Mexican Border in 1916. Transferred to Camp Upton, N.Y.; assigned to 152nd Depot Brigade. Died of pneumonia October 1, 1918. Buried in Logansport, Ind. Survived by widow, Nellie Cassady, Peru, Ind.

(Names of parents unknown.) Born in January, 1888, St. Louis, Mo. Employed in Kokomo, Ind., when he was called into service September 21, 1917. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. assigned to Battery D, 325th Field Artillery. Transferred to Company I, 152nd Infantry. Overseas in June, 1918, with Replacement Detachment. Killed in action July 28, 1918, in Chateau-Thierry Sector. (Burial place unknown).

Received training at Parris Island, S. C., and Quantico, Va. Assigned to 96th Company, 2nd Battalion, 6th Regiment, U.S. Marines. Overseas in January, 1918. Gassed, June 14, at Belleau Wood. Died June 29, 1918, in Red Cross Hospital, No. 5. Buried outside the city of Paris.

Son of William Henry and Sarah Fox; born September 21, 1891, Bedford, Lawrence County, Ind. Later moved to Kokomo, Howard County, (exact date not given), where he enlisted in Company E, 2nd Infantry, Indiana National Guard, (Company E, 152nd Infantry) June 25, 1917. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss.; transferred to the Machine Gun Company, 152nd Infantry. Overseas in October, 1918. Stricken with influenza, he died October 17, 1918, in Army Hospital in Liverpool, England. Buried in Everton Cemetery, Liverpool.

Son of William S. and Minnie Golladay (Hankins); born July 13, 1899, Kokomo, Ind. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army July 23, 1917, Kokomo, Ind. Sent to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind. Overseas in October, 1917, with Company D, 28th Infantry. Killed in action March 18, 1918, being the first Howard County soldier to give his life on the battle fields of Europe. Buried in grave No. 234, Maudre, France. The American Legion Post, Kokomo, Ind., is named in his honor.


George Ray GOUDY Rank: Private, U.S.M.C.
Son of George Alva and Estella M. Goudy; born November 30, 1899, Kokomo, Ind. High school student. Enlisted in U.S. Marine Corps March 23, 1917, Kokomo, and sent to Parris Island, S. C. Went overseas; attached to automatic gun crew Participated in battle of Chateau-Thierry, and Belleau Wood. Took part in drive at St. Mihiel, and while carrying water to a wounded comrade, was killed September 15, 1918. Buried at Jaulny, France.

Son of Elmer and Clara Sherman Gullion (Runell); born May 1, 1896, Logansport, Ind. Moved to Kokomo, Ind., in 1910. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army June 10, 1917, Kokomo. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Company A, 325th Field Artillery. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss. Overseas in June, 1918; attached to Company A; 110th Engineers. Killed in action September 29, 1918, in Argonne Forest. Buried in Argonne American Cemetery, Romagne, France.


Frederick Arthur HENDERSON Rank: 1st Lieutenant
Son of Charles A. and Harriett Crabbs Henderson; born September 19, 1886, Anderson, Ind. Later moved with parents to Kokomo, Ind. Graduated from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Pa. in 1912, Commissioned 1st Lieutenant in Medical Reserve Corps, August 27, 1917. Transferred to Camp Taylor, Ky.; then to U.S. Army Hospital, Ft. Bayard, N. M., where he died of tuberculosis, January 13, 1919. Buried in Montpelier, Blackford County, Ind. Survived by widow, Edna Anne Shannon Henderson.

Son of William H. and Martha Hollingsworth; born November 6, 1896, Edwardsport, Knox County, Ind. Moved to Howard County in 1909. Employe in Stellite Factory, Kokomo, Ind., when he was called into service September 4, 1918. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to headquarters Company, 70th Field Artillery. Transferred to Camp Knox, Ky., where he died of influenza October 10, 1918. Buried in Albright Cemetery, Oakford, Howard County, Ind.

Walter Long IRVIN Rank: Private
Son of Fred B. and Jessie S. Irvin; born August 18, 1890, Howard County, Ind. Entered service March 11, 1918; assigned to aviation service. Sent to Kelly Field, Tex. Transferred to Carnegie Institute, Pittsburg, Pa. for training in aerial mechanics; then to Hempstead, N. Y. In July, 1918, he sailed for England with 267th Aero Squadron. Died of influenza November 7, 1918, Shorncliffe, England. Body returned, and buried in Kokomo, Ind.


Charles Sampson JENKINS Rank: Sergeant
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry G. Jenkins; born June 30, 1898, Greentown, Howard County, Ind. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army July 21, 1916. Sent to Columbus Barracks, Ohio; assigned to Medical Department; transferred to Ft. Clark, Tex.; thence to Camp Travis, Tex.; then to Newport News, Va. Assigned to Hospital duty in the National Soldier's Home. Death resulted from drowning April 24, 1919, Newport News, Va. Body recovered, and sent to Kokomo, Ind. for burial.


Willis Otto KIMBALL Rank: Private
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kimball (father deceased); born June 17, 1900, Middlefork, Clinton County, Ind. Following the death of his father, he made his home with an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Whitecotton, Kokomo, Ind. Enlisted in Battery B, 150th Field Artillery in July, 1917. Overseas in October, 1917. The last word received from him was dated August 9, 1918, In May, 1919, message received that he had died from gun shot wounds, received accidentally, February 18, 1919, "in France."

Stricken with influenza, he died December 7, 1918. Buried at Russiaville, Howard County, Ind.

Son of Jeremiah and Mary McNew; born December 2, 1892, Tipton County, Ind. Moved to Howard County in 1904. Farmer. Entered service March 18, 1918. Sent to Camp Greene, N. C. Overseas in May, 1918; assigned to Company E, 39th Infantry, 4th Division. Participated in second battle of the Marne, Chateau-Thierry, Belleau Wood, St. Mihiel, Verdun, and the Argonne Forest Drive. Killed in action October 6, 1918. (Burial place unknown).

Son of John and Carrie Schafer Metz; born December 4, 1891, Howard County, Ind. Attending the Illinois Holiness College, Olivet, Ill., preparing for the ministry, when he entered service June 26, 1918. Sent to Camp Jackson, S. C.; assigned to Company C, 12th Field Artillery Replacement Depot. Promoted to Sergeant. Died of pneumonia October 4, 1918. Buried in the family cemetery, three miles west of Plevna, Howard County, Ind.


Clarence Orville MORGAN Rank: Private
Son of L. J. and Luellen Herron Morgan; born July 8, 1895, Swayzee, Grant County, Ind. Moved to Howard County in 1916. Entered service April 3, 1918, Kokomo. Sent to Ft. Hamilton, N. Y.; assigned to 12th Company, Coast Artillery Corps. One week from the day he left home, he was stricken with pneumonia, taken to the First Aid Hospital, where he died April 16, 1918. Buried in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Swayzee, Grant County, Ind.


Rex E. NELSON Rank: Private
Son of J. F. and Julia Blue Nelson; born October 21, 1894, Rochester, Ind. Moved to Howard County in 1899. Machinist. Entered service April 26, 1918, Kokomo. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp Sheridan, Ala; then to Long Island. Overseas in June, 1918, with Headquarters Company, 134th Field Artillery, 37th Division. Ill when he landed in France; sent to hospital at Bordeaux, where he died, August 7, 1918. Body returned to Kokomo, Ind. for burial.

Son of John F. and Helen Packmayr; born December 14, 1889, Baltimore, Md. Later moved to Kokomo, Ind. Residing temporarily in San Francisco, Cal., when he entered service (date not known.) Went overseas; assigned to Headquarters Company, 362nd Infantry, 91st Division. Died September 28, 1918 from wounds received in action. Survived by widow Cora Gay Packmayr, and three sons, Kenneth, Leroy, and Carl, Kokomo, Ind.

Edgar Franklin REED Rank: Corporal
Son of William and Jane Reed; born May 19, 1888, Nevada, Ind., near the Tipton-Howard County line. Entered service in September, 1917, Kokomo, Ind. Sent to Camp Greene, N. C.; assigned to Company E, 61st Infantry. Went overseas, and was seriously wounded in action, October 30, 1918, and died two days later. Buried in U.S. Cemetery, Esnes, No. 673, Grave No. 35, France. Awarded Distinguished Service Cross (post-humously) for bravery in action.

Stricken with influenza, he died September 24, 1918, and the body was sent to Kokomo, Ind. for burial.

Sent to Indianapolis for special training; assigned to Detachment No. 4, Blind Institute. Transferred to Camp Johnston, Fla.; assigned to 7th Labor Company. Overseas in September, 1918. Died of disease November 14, 1918. Body returned to United States in July, 1920, and buried in Galveston Cemetery, Cass County, Ind.


Arthur E. THARP Rank: Private
Son of Lewis W. and Ada Tharp; born December 9, 1900, Anderson, Ind. Moved to Kokomo in 1906. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army, March 17, 1917, and sent to Ft. Thomas, Ky. Transferred to Ft. Terry, N. Y.; then to Camp Robinson, Wis., and later to Camp Greene, N. C. Went overseas in May, 1918; assigned to Battery A, 16th Field Artillery. Went into action, and was killed August 12th, 1918. (Burial place unknown).

Son of Allen Sharp (deceased) and Mary Jackson Thatcher; born March 11, 1891, Pittsburgh, Pa. Moved to South Bend, Ind. in 1911. Enlisted in Radio Branch of U.S. Navy December 10, 1917, South Bend, Ind. Sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Chicago, Ill. Assigned to Quartermaster Department. Contracted pneumonia while stationed on the Essex, and died at Great Lakes Hospital, Ill., October 8, 1918. Buried in Kokomo, Ind.

Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 4th Company, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Camp McClellan, Ala.; assigned to Headquarters Company, 12th Ammunition Train. Died of influenza December 17, 1918, Camp McClellan, Ala. Buried in Arcadia, Hamilton County, Ind.


John G. TREES Rank: Private
Son of John S. and Alice Trees; born June 24, 1884, Howard County, Ind. Tried several times to enlist in the army of the U.S., but was rejected because he was below the required height. On May 10, 1918 he enlisted in the Canadian Army, Toronto, Canada. Assigned to the Medical Corps. Died September, 1918, from heart disease, Camp Niagara, Ontario, Canada. Body returned to Kokomo, Ind., for burial.

Son of John and Hannah Weaver; born February 16, 1888, Noble Township, Cass County, Ind. Coremaker, Globe Range Works, Kokomo, Ind. Called into service April 26, 1918, Kokomo, Ind.; assigned to Company D, 118th Engineers. Went overseas; contracted tuberculosis; returned to United States; received treatment in tuberculosis hospital, Denver, Col. Case pronounced incurable, and he was sent home, Logansport, Ind., where he died November 27, 1919. Buried in Mount Hope Cemetery.
