Welcome to Howard County Resources, Addresses and LookupsVital Records InformationThe County Clerk holds the marriage, divorce, probate and civil court records including wills. The County Recorder holds the land records, and the County Health Department has birth, death and burial records.
Marriages in Howard County were recorded starting in 1844, while births and deaths were not officially recorded until 1882. Even then, there are many pre-1900 and turn-of the century births and deaths that were not recorded. If the Birth or Death occurred between 1875 and 1920, the record may be recorded in the Master Index Books; the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library Genealogy and Local History Department has these master indexes available on microfilm. All records are listed in date order; therefore
one-year time frame must be specified for any search.
The cost for this search as of 2011 was $7.00 per
name, per search. IF the search is successful,
the Health Department will send a genealogy information
sheet, which includes all the information on the
record. Prices as of 2017 are:
If you are requesting birth information, the Department will also need a copy of your current state issued driver’s license or I. D. card. These offices can be contacted via US Mail at: Indiana Marriages Database: Database for Indiana marriages 1958 through 2021 |
