Butt Cemetery

Located just west of the eastern county line, just north of a railroad line and Old U.S. 24, between 600 & 700 E., in Miami County, Indiana.

In the fall of 1856, William Butt lost his wife and four sons to Typhoid. He sadly made a burial ground on his property on a hill overlooking the Wabash River and the Wabash and Erie Canal. More family and friends would follow them to the grave including William Butt himself.

Because the stones, even in 1976 when some work was done at the cemetery including a fence, are over 100 years old, readings by different individuals do not always agree. There most likely are more unmarked graves not accounted for.  Information comes from various sources.
