We as a family are celebrating the life of Roy H. Pier, 87, as he ascended to glory. He graduated to glory at 6:20 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2005 at his home (1542 W. 400 South, Peru), which was less than a mile from his birthplace.

Pier was born in Miami County on December 29, 1917 to Clarence and Grace (Engel) Pier, and resided in this county his entire life.

The 1936 graduate of Bunker Hill High School married Patricia Ann Erwin on November 2, 1952. Pier's memberships included Miami Fellowship of Praise Church, the Moose Lodge, Peru, and Plumber/Steamfitters Local 440 Union.

Pier was retired from Quality Plumbing and Heating.

He served in the United States Army during World War II, and his hobbies included fishing, golfing, gardening, shuffle board, card games, a challenge, and spending his deep love with his family and friends.

Pier is survived by his wife; two daughters, Patti Lynn Grube and husband Paul, Rochester, and Connie Rockwell, Indianapolis; four sons, Allen Pier and wife Jeannie, Peru, Dale Pier and wife Dara, Bunker Hill, Mark Pier and wife Carol, Peru, and Randy Pier and wife Teresa, Peru; two brothers, Donald Pier, Peru, and Robert Pier and wife Marlene, Peru; grandchildren, Jeff Grube, Gary Grube, Shawn Grube, Melissa Pier, Jimmy Pier, Sean Morr, Brad Pier, Stacy Nichols, Candace Rockwell, Rachel Sutton, and Grace Pier; great-grandchildren, Brad Grube, Ashlin Grube, Sophie Grube, and Lincoln Sutton; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Henry Pier, Ellis Pier, Joe Pier, and Wilbur Pier; and six sisters, Irene Graft, Sylvia Jones, Gladys White, Dorothy Wolf, Wanita Pier, and Mary Lucille Pier.

Funeral services will be conducted at Allen Funeral Home, Bunker Hill, on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with Brother Steve Bluse and brother Mark Chase officiating.

Burial will be at Salem Cemetery, Miami County.

Visitation will be today at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m.
