DENVER TRIBUNE
The DENVER TRIBUNE was first published in April 1897 as a successor
newspaper to the DENVER SUN. The DENVER TRIBUNE was published once a week, on
Thursday. In 1920, Lewis H. Dice of Denver, Indiana was listed as its
Publisher, Editor, Managing Editor and Owner.
Denver, Indiana is uniquely located at the convergence of three Miami
County townships - Jefferson, Richland and Union. Therefore, it reported not
only the Denver news, but also included the Miami County towns of Chili,
Courtier, Deedsville, Hoover, Mexico, Twelve Mile and Woolleytown, among others.
Articles also dealt with events in Peru and Macy and even reached into the
surrounding counties such as Cass and Fulton.
While not much news of a national nature was reported, the DENVER
TRIBUNE filled its pages with the everyday happenings of the people in the
surrounding area - including births, marriages and deaths. Sometimes an
article reported only the barest facts, but many articles were rich in
genealogical details.
There were some typographical errors in the dates as reported by the
DENVER TRIBUNE - as well as misspelled names in some cases - so if an “exact”
fit is not apparent from previous research, it may well be the “right” person
