FAQWhy can't I find a birth or death record for someone born in 1870? In Indiana, birth and death records were kept beginning in 1882 (by law) in about 95% of the counties. A few areas (but not Miami County) kept these records starting in the mid 1870's (usually urban areas). Even though it was the law, many people (doctors, undertakers, and midwives) did not comply. So just because they are not in the records, doesn't mean they weren't born or didn't die in a particular county. These records are kept by the COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT where the event took place. Can you get me a copy of the original document I need? No. I do not live near the county seat and travel there infrequently during office hours. With the price of gasoline I don't make research trips often. Please contact the appropriate government office for information on obtaining these records. I sent you something and it is still not on the website. When can I expect to see it on the website? If it has been awhile, please email me at dbeheler@comcast.net and remind me. Sometimes I receive great submissions at a time when I am very busy or away for a few days and they get set aside and slip my mind. I don't mind being reminded at all, so please do. Also, there are a very few limits to what I can put on the site
including GEDCOMs. All submissions must be related to this county in
order to be considered. |
