EAST SAND-RIDGE CEMETERY

3/5 of 1 mile west of paved State Highway 17, 3/20’s of a mile east of Indian Creek Home in northeastern NOBLE Township , CASS County , INDIANA . On the side of an East-West road which traverses the north half of section 11 in the N.E. 1/4 of the S.E. 1/4 of the N.W 1/4 of Section 11, T. 27 N., R.1 E. Cemetery is about 3 miles N.N.W. of the courthouse in Logansport [as the crow flies.]

Cemetery is about 100 feet in diameter located on the summit of a circular knoll of sandy soil [which according to R. B. Whitsett Jr.] “Appeared to look like an artificial [man-made] Indian-mound”.

Cemetery is 50 ft. north of an east-to-west unpaved road & up a slope. Cemetery is about 100 ft. west or S.W. of the brick farm-home of Mr. Lowell Forgey [Mar. 26, 1941]. This sturdy brick remodeled structure served in the pre-consolidation days as District School #4. Cemetery has long been abandoned for burial purposes. It is owned by Noble Township and in 1940 contained about a dozen Cedar trees of various sizes & several assorted Pine trees.

20 X 20 rods. [See 25, Cass Co. Recorders vault records, Logansport , IN

No other stones were found but a few unlettered fragments, though other burials here were probable & suspect many un-marked graves.

R.B.W.Jr. secretary of the L’A.V.M.A. writes, [The late, local historian, Dr. J. Z. Powell writing [1907 – 1913] gave the names of a few persons whom we found no legible markers for in addition to those we have listed & so include them in this report.]

Note: Those names are all of the Harwood family & year of death is approximate.

Children of the Lowerbacks, 4 of them {Milfard, Rosa , J.F. & Harry  are all buried with one monument.
