Cemetery
is near the S.E. corner of S.W. 1/4, S.W. 1/4 of S.24, T.27 N., R.1W., 2nd
IN. P.M., JEFFERSON Township, W. CASS County, INDIANA.
On
11-Nov-1940, found the cemetery located in the S.E. corner of a large
grove of
Sugar-Maples on the CALEB BANTA FARM. The farm is north of what is
commonly
called the [“Effner” or “
Notes:
This cemetery should not be confused with the
Local
Historian, Dr. Jehu Z. Powell is the authority for the statement that
“This
cemetery contains a number of unmarked graves & that it
contains the graves
of two children who died in 1835 who were surnamed BAUM.”
[Note: perhaps
children of pioneer George Baum.].
It
is likely that some of the early interments here were those of persons
surnamed
HUGHES or HUGHS [WILLIAM HUGHES?] for this land is said to have
belonged to a
person by that surname when set aside for burial purposes.
