The photo was taken sometime around 1895. The people in the photo are Elza
Andrew
Jackson, his wife, Ida Evaline Coppick Jackson, their son, Ira Thaddeus
Jackson (standing behind parents) and probable daughter, Flora Jackson, although
it could be daughter, Clara if taken before 1898 when Clara died. I just
thought this photo was wonderful for the detail it showed in an old time grocery
store. I found in the 1900 Cass Co., IN census for Logansport that Lewis Ritter
and Simon Gross were both listed as "grocers". Were they the proprietors of
this store?
This photo belonged to my great-Aunt
Hattie-Mae Campbell Jackson, daughter-in-law to Ira Thaddeus Jackson. Ira was
killed in 1903 so she never knew him. After his death,
his wife, who was pregnant with their only child, moved back to Logansport.
