Passing of Thomas Jessup. Veteran of the Civil War Passes Away at his home on Markland Ave.
Thomas Jessup, an honest, kind hearted old soldier, died Tuesday evening at his late home near Darrough Chapel on East Markland Avenue. The funeral will take place at the Darrough Chapel Thursday at 10 o'clock. The interment will be had in Albright Cemetery.


Mrs. Mattie Jane MATLOCK JOHNSON (c 1865-1938)

"Death closed the life of Mrs. Mattie Jane MATLOCK JOHNSON, age 73, early Monday mornin(g). She succumbed at the Good Samaritan hospital at 3:30 o'clock of complications from which she has suffered for the past six months.
She was removed from her home, 311 North Union Street, to the hospital two weeks ago. Funeral services will be held at the Ellers mortuary at 2:30 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon..... Burial will follow at Crown Point cemetery...
Surviving are the husband, Louis JOHNSON; two sons, Merrill MATLOCK of Kokomo, and Leon MATLOCK of Indianapolis and a brother Charles SLOAN of Kokomo.
She was a member of the First United Brethren church and was a past president of the Howard Count chapter of American War Mothers."

Survivors: husband; 2 children by former marriage, Mrs. Madeline SMITH & Thomas DEMPSEY; 3 sisters, Dr. Gertrude MCKINNEY, Dr. Laura GRANT and "one residing in Detroit, MI" [not named]; one brother, Mark HAMMOND.
Funeral Home: S.C. Moore; awaiting funeral arrangements. NOTE: a separate notice from 10 Dec 1942 = funeral services held at St. Patrick's Catholic church and "body taken to Noblesville for burial" [no cemetery listed]
