The Dead of the Year

List of Interments of 1896 in Crown Point Cemetery
They Number 165, a Decrease of 17 From Last Year

Source: Kokomo Dispatch, 2 Jan 1897, page 6

Today marks the beginning of the twenty-ninth year of continuous service for Mark McTigue as sexton of the Kokomo cemeteries. Twenty-eight years of this time he has devoted to Crown Point, famed as one of the most beautiful spots on all the state. Not only has he with his own hands built nearly every one of 3017 "houses that last till doomsday" in this cemetery, but to his care and skill has contributed largely to the beauty of the place, with its well kept lawns and carefully trimmed trees.

Mark McTigue was 37 years of age when he first began his trade of grave making, and today at 66 he seems to have hardly changed in the least in personal appearance, while he is as vigorous and sturdy as a gnarled oak of the forest.
As has been his custom for years, Sexton McTigue furnishes The Dispatch the list of interments in Crown Point for the year today. It numbers 166, a decrease of 17 over last year and is as follows:
